These aren’t your usual Chinese carbon release bearings that might last a few months. This is a professionally made release bearing that will last. The shortest life-span that I know of for a carbon bearing was six weeks. It took just six weeks to turn what looked like a perfectly good new carbon “bearing” into a pile of dust in the bell-housing. The owner was not pleased having to pay the mechanic to remove the engine again. Since there is no commercially available roller release bearing available, I started making my own in year 2010. I use the original cast iron carrier, suitably modified to accept a high grade fully sealed roller bearing, into which is pressed a nitrided steel sleeve with a baked-on Teflon front face. The Teflon coating was designed by Cosworth for use on Formula 1 engine pistons. These roller release bearings will outlast many carbon ones, and are essential if you’ve upgraded to a heavy duty pressure plate. Of course you can continue to use your old carbon style “bearing” if you really get your jollies out of removing and replacing engines to get to the thrust bearing! I need your old one back so that I can make more of these. I have now fitted it along with a NOS pressure plate and driven plate. It has turned out even better than I expected, with a light action, making gear shifting much smoother. When viewed through the inspection hole in the bellhousing, the bearing runs beautifully true on the pressure pad. I have recommended you to a couple of the guys in our club who have been looking at alternatives to the dreaded carbon thrust, so you may be getting some more orders. You are doing a great job with that fine roller bearing. I tell people that and you can quote me. All running great put some miles on the new bearing and runs and shifts great!
